The D building rises on a typical apartment building plot in Balgat, Ankara. In line with the zoning permit, it has three floors on the entrance side, and along with the half basement, car park and attic floor, it consists of six levels. The surrounding buildings are used partly as offices as well as residential dwellings, with differing facade characters depending on their use. Although the D Building functions as an office, the fact that different firms will be occupying apartments of different sizes raises a design problem. Here, the issue is a building that was initially designed as an office, or rather a plaza. The design was aimed at creating a common office image that will not bear specific elements of a specific institution.
The main entrance, the stairwell and a part of the services are placed in the center of the building. Accordingly, the structure has been resolved within the peripheries, thus obtaining a clear cut space. This clear cut space is compatible with the alterations demanded by different users. The offices on the second floor have additional office spaces that have been created within the attic and which have terraces on the front facade. These duplex offices have their own independent internal stairs.
A rather plain and permanent expression has been obtained by combining the use of exposed concrete and travertine coatings. The corners of the covered projections on the front and rear facades have been designed as balconies and the use of stone coated walls have created a joint statement on the entirety of the building.
