Across the street from TED University City Campus Phase 1, the larger phase 2 Campus is built in accordance with a partial refurbishment / restoration project developed in and around what used to be the TED Ankara College Primary and Secondary School buildings. Protecting one additional building more than what had been required by the Protection Board, three existing school buildings were converted into faculty rooms and classrooms of the university, complying with contemporary building codes, fire regulations and universal accessibility principles. Three new proposed buildings with a common basement structure follow the outlines of the demolished structures.
This basement structure defines the center of the campus, physically and visually connecting all six buildings around a common sunken amphitheater. The togetherness and confluence of the existing and the new is further enhanced with an ample number of connections to the urban environment, creating a multilayered architectural fabric.
